Instructions
Watch the video to see the step-by-step process of dyeing your hair with our herbal dyes. Below, you'll find detailed instructions to guide you through each stage. The model in the video pre-pigmented her grey hair with our Henna and is using Indigo to make it black. If you prefer one step, you can use our Deep Chestnut Brown.
-
Step 1: Clean Hair
Start with washed, clean, dry hair. If your hair is chemically dyed, herbal dyes still work. Test on a few strands before applying fully. When using indigo on gray or light hair, apply henna first or mix indigo with henna as detailed in step 3.
-
Step 2: Measure the Amount
Use the following amounts based on hair length:
- Roots/above ear: 50g
- Jaw length: 75g
- Shoulders: 100-125g
- Mid-back: 150-175g
- Lower back: 200-225g
- Waist length: 250-300g
-
Step 3: Mix
Mix the powder with warm water to form a smooth, yogurt-like paste using a spoon or hand mixer. Start with a drier paste and see how it applies; add water if needed. Use brown or blonde dye right after mixing. For henna, apply it right away or let it develop for 2-8 hours for a deeper color. When using indigo, apply henna first or mix it with henna.
-
Step 4: Application
Section your hair into four parts and clip them. Put on gloves, unclip one section, and apply henna with your fingers or a brush, focusing on small sections for full coverage. After you're done, wear the hair cap to keep it warm, and wrap a towel around for deeper color.
-
Step 5: Processing Time
Henna:
-Copper shades: 1–3 hours
-Deeper shades: 4–6 hours
Brown & Chestnut:
-Cooler, darker shades: 1–1.25 hours (1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes)
-Warmer shades: 2–3 hours
Indigo (applied after henna):
-1–2 hours
Blonde Revival:
-Quick refresh: 30 minutes
-Full coverage: 1.5–3 hours
Sunlit Transition:
-Soft blonde: 30 minutes
-Warm blonde: 1 hour
-Honey blonde: 2–3 hours -
Step 6: Rinse
Rinse your hair with water until it runs clear. You can use conditioner, but it’s best to avoid shampoo for 24-48 hours for optimal results. If necessary, use a mild shampoo. Since our herbal dye is made from natural plant ingredients, the color may rinse out slightly with each wash. However, the coverage remains effective until your hair grows out. The fading is minimal, resulting in a gentle, natural evolution of the shade over time.
